What's Going on in the Toxic Titties VIP Area? (2003)
Imagine a world without art…
The truth is that the artists of today are forced to survive economically against insurmountable odds! The Institutions that are supposed to protect them have failed. Very little of the funds that are donated actually trickle down to the artists who need them so badly. For this reason, we are looking back to historical precedent for an alternate solution to this serious problem. The patronage system has a long and illustrious history. Patrons want to sponsor the advancement of the arts but they often have trouble deciding where their wealth should be placed. Our solution: A patron for every artist. Why not distribute wealth to cultural producers in style?
We took the gala opening of REDCAT in the Walt Disney Concert Hall as an opportunity to test our theory. The Be My Patron foundation invited a number of noted patrons and a group of talented emerging visual artists to this fabulous event. We created a 12'x12' VIP room within the opening. In this space artists were free to propose artistic ventures and request funds from our generous patrons. The results far exceeded our expectations and the giving was unprecedented. Over one million Tittie dollars were distributed on this singe evening! Many relationships developed that night which will enrich the art world for many years to come.
Our events in Seattle and New York have met with similar success.Through the exclusive events promoted by the Be My Patron Foundation patrons can make their philanthropic vision a reality. Patrons can have a direct view of where their funding is going and develop personal artist-patron relationships.
